Abstract

The problem of plastic waste remains a serious environmental issue due to its difficult-to-decompose nature and potential to pollute soil, water, and ecosystems. Low public awareness of the dangers of conventional plastic is one of the causes of the increasing volume of plastic waste in the environment, including in Lampoh Sirong Village, Mutiara District, Pidie Regency. This community service activity aims to increase environmental awareness among the community through an understanding of bioplastics as an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional plastics. The implementation method includes outreach, interactive discussions, and demonstrations of making simple bioplastics from cassava starch. Evaluation was carried out through observation and the distribution of questionnaires before and after the activity to assess the increase in participants' understanding and attitudes towards the importance of protecting the environment. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in public knowledge and awareness regarding the impact of plastic on the environment, increase in participant understanding reached 89,5% as well as the emergence of community initiatives to reduce the use of single-use plastics. Thus, this activity contributes positively to building environmentally conscious behavior.
